FFL Dealers in New York

1,397 federally licensed firearms dealers across New York, from the ATF’s published licensee list. Pick a city for names, addresses and phone numbers.

This is the ATF licensee list — who holds a licence and where. It is not opening hours, not transfer fees, and not a guarantee that a given dealer handles private-party transfers. Call before you drive.

What New York requires for a private transfer

  • New York requires every private firearm sale to go through a licensed dealer, so an FFL is not optional here — you need one of the dealers below.
  • New York requires a permit to purchase for some firearms.
  • New York exempts some transfers between family members, but the exemption is narrower than people expect and does not cover every relative or every kind of transfer. Check before relying on it.
  • License required for handguns and semi-auto rifles (raised 2022).

Cities in New York

Another 1,317 New York dealers are in towns with fewer than 8 licensees each, so they do not have a page of their own. Search by ZIP code to find those.

Doing the transfer itself

A dealer handles the background check. The bill of sale, both parties’ records and a permanent copy of the paperwork are what Gun Transfer does — $50 flat, about ten minutes.
